Re: Instructions for Renewing Certificates
One or more of your Alabama Teacher’s Certificates expires June 30, 2017. These certificates must be renewed before June 30, 2017. This office will certify years of experience (EXP form), CEUs (Professional Development), PLUs (if applicable), record of last certificate issued and submit the completed documents to the State Department of Education.
In some instances, teachers may have other requirements to meet in order to renew a certificate. For example, if someone is renewing an Administration Certificate, the requirement is to have 2 state and 3 local PLU’s listed on STI PD by 6/30/2017 . Or if a teacher has not taught at least three years of the valid period of the certificate, some additional college credit or additional CEU’s may be earned in order to renew the certificate. If you know that one of these requirements is applicable to you, please contact me to discuss the matter.
The Alabama State Department of Education and Certification Office will offer online renewal capability for people whose certificates are scheduled for renewal in 2017. The highlights of the process include online institution (LEA) authorization and approval, online fee payment by the certificate holder, and electronic delivery of the renewed certificate. The certificate holder must have an email account and must pay the renewal fee online. A transaction fee will be applied. The timeline for certificate renewal will be dramatically shortened for those individuals who are eligible for and who complete the online renewal process.
With the passage of the Alabama Act No. 2011-535 as amended by Alabama Act No. 2012-491, Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act, a Citizenship or National Status declaration for each applicant must be on file in the ALSDE Teacher Certification Office prior to processing the applicant’s renewal through OLR.
• Please complete the Supplement IMG form and return it to me ASAP.
• The On-line Renewal (OLR) program will be up and running the first of February. Once I have the completed IMG Forms and they are scanned into the computer, I will be able to process your renewal more quickly.
When your certificate has been approved for renewal by Marshall County and the certification office you will receive directions by e-mail from the certification office to pay on line.
Please make sure that you check to confirm that the name is correct on the e-mail and that the certificates listed are the ones being renewed.
If you choose to pay on line your new certificate will be processed and e-mailed to you within minutes.
If you choose to pay by money order ($30.) please send the money order to me. Once the money order is received by the certification office the certificate will be emailed to Marshall County and a copy forwarded to you.
Fill out IMG Form and return to me ASAP.
Email will be sent from State Dept. of Ed. asking you to pay.
Your certificate will be emailed to you within minutes.
